The 28-year-old man who kept his girlfriend, a university student captive in a hovel and physically abused her several times was released on parole, says a press release of the Somogy County Prosecutor’s Office.
The man, nicknamed the Cruel Hermit, had lived with his girlfriend in an underground hovel since April 2019. In May he tied her up, beat her, put out a cigarette on her thigh, then at dawn he pulled the naked, tied-up woman outside the hovel and left her there. She ran into the forest and was hiding there for several days before she asked for help.
The prosecution started a case against the man in November 2019 but on March 26th 2020 the court terminated the procedure without a trial and released the man on parole, only ordering criminal supervision and a restraining order against him. The prosecution appealed to take the accused into custody again.
Right after he was set free, the man contacted his ex-girlfriend on a community website. For this, he was caught again but not arrested, he is still at large.
TV channel ATV contacted the accused, who denies the charges. He claims he “only” hit the woman once because of her mental state, as she had delusions.
“She said she would take away the light and life; that she was 56 and 6, and her 50 fellow devils were on the way. She still keeps sending me messages about the devil, about her having met Jesus and being in touch with God”, the man claims.
He says he got scared from what she said, this was the reason he hit her.
